Shot to be refilmed (by Coleman)

This worms eye feet tracking shot of Coleman was too shaky as a fig rig was not used. When we reshoot we will use a fig rig to steady the camera to result in a more stable outcome.

In this close up of Coleman's phone the wrong focal point was selected by the camera and we did not realize this mistake until we reviewed out footage. When we reshoot we will ensure the focus is on the phone not the leaves behind it.

Here we attempted to use a pan shot of Rugile on a train platform but we did not use a tripod to do so, our outcome was not a smooth pan. To correct this on our reshoot we will use a tripod instead of handheld to get this shot.

In this shot Rugile is not visible enough for our audience to recognise that this is a character in our opening sequence, so when we reshoot we will position the camera closer to Rugile in oder to notice her presence.

Rough Cut Feedback (Rugile Oraite)

We previewed an unfinished version of our production Running From. Our rough cut was a short sequence of where we are up to so far and this is some of the feedback we received:
1) The topic and and message of this film is very clear and a story is beginning to build up in the audience's minds.
2) Some shots in our sequence had poor camera control as we either did not have a fig rig or tripod on the different days of shooting. NEED TO RESHOOT.
3) The song we used really matched the atmosphere of the title sequence. However, we need to work on where we begin playing it.
4) To make the message of how the characters are going to cross paths eventually even more clear, we need to make sure that in the shots where they are walking, they walk into opposite directions.
5) Our mise-en-scene was really good.

Blogging Health check 2

This is the feedback and grade I received from the second blogging health check. I did better than last time and am proud of that because i tried to push my grade up and managed to succeed. I still have some improvements to make on my personal blog and am going to do that by the next deadline.

December 11th Filming (Rugile Oraite)

December 11th Filming

Tunnel Shot
We only got one quick video during our filming session on Sunday 11th. This is mainly because we didn't take that long this time. Unfortunately, Jayden couldn't be at this filming session due to his grandma being sick. This wasn't a problem and we completely understood why he couldn't come. Also, this day we used Coleman's friends house to shoot a couple shots of the beginning and then he ended up coming with us to help out with the lighting (much appreciated). We were shooting at Canary Wharf again and this time we were actually approached by a security guard. But everything was okay, because we just showed him our Student ID card and he had no problem with that. As far as we know right now, this is all the filming we currently need, and this was a nice way to wrap.

December 6th Filming (Rugile Oraite)

December 6th Filming

Fans
Our first day filming in Canary Wharf was really fun, whilst walking to one of our filming destinations we actually got approached by a drunk guy and had a funny encounter.

Lit Benches
During filming that same day, we discovered this little spot with the light up benches and just thought it was really cool. We experimented and attempted to get a shot of them but we found it just didn't really fit with the atmosphere of our production.

Still Shot
Just a quick snap of Coleman setting up a still shot when we didn't have a tripod.

This day was very successful because we got many good shots that we needed and did not come to any trouble for filming in Canary Wharf. We are well aware of the conditions that you must meet in order to film at Canary Wharf. We made sure that we were within our rights.

Blogging Health Check 2 Feedback

We just got our blogging health check 2 back in relation to all of your research section of our planning.
I received 15 marks out of 21 a grade I am happy with, but know could be better.

Use of sound in previous student work

Audition tapes for Running From production (by Coleman)

For our Male teenage character we decided to pick Coleman because of his good performance in shutting the door hard. As Jayden could not slam the door as hard as Coleman.

For our Mother character which only role is one muffled shouting part went to Ugne for her ability to project her voice well to be picked up and recorded by the camera. And her statement was stronger that Rugile's statement.

We also held other auditions for our two remaining character parts, that of our female teenage character and father character. But they could sadly not be recorded. The roles where established that Rugile would play the female teen and Colemans dad's voice would be recorded to play the father.

Pitch Feedback (Rugile Oraite)

This is the second half of our recorded pitch feedback. Through multiple tries, we are still unable to upload the first half due to technical difficulties. However, all that was missed from the first half is positive feedback about our presentation skills. For improvements, we needed to narrow down our target audience.

The Film in the Pitch (Coleman)

Storyboard (Rugile Oraite)

To be fair, this is a very rough storyboard. This is because this is the most basic explanation of our shots. A lot of the "in-between" shots will most likely be decided in the moment once we can visually see what appears good on the camera and with the lighting set up. However,  I will keep updating the story board if and when we make changes and additions.

Genre of our Film (Rugile Oraite)

Genre/Sub-genre of Film

We have decided to create a Youth Drama film. One reason behind this is that we went out of our way to attempt and do something not as common as horror/thriller etc. Although choosing a genre that isn’t as common for this task doesn’t mean we will automatically do better, we felt like we could be more creative and original. At first, we were steering towards action or comedy. We decided against this because in order to create an action film capturing at the beginning, we might have needed equipment that we do not have a budget for. Also, if you pay attention you would be able to see that comedy film title sequences aren’t actually that funny in most cases and this could end up being fairly boring if it has no further context.

KEN PARK

Ken park is a youth drama film that we have been majorly inspired by. This whole film is sectioned off and about the lives of main 3/4 characters who somehow are also involved with each other. The thing that we really like about this opening sequence is that at the very end, something critically important happens that gives the rest of the film a motivation. That is exactly what we want our opening credits to do, except ours might be a bit more subtle.

SUBMARINE

Submarine is another youth drama film that we have taken inspiration from. What really stood out for us in this opening sequence is how shots of surrounding areas are used to create a specific atmosphere and mood for this film. This is what we want to do.

Genre Conventions within Youth Drama

Genre conventions

Font
I have noticed even though the character age of the main characters are generally around a late teen to early adult the fonts somewhat contradict that, as they are seen here as crudely written childish handwriting. This emphasises the still childlike characters, despite the themes of the film.

Character focus
In some genres like horror and thriller the opening sequences focus on the main characters obsession/addiction. Through the research I have conducted into youth drama I have found usually the main character is at the centre of the sequence although we are simply following him/her through there daily activities. Or also the length of the title sequence is used as a large metaphor about one of the main characters.

INFLUENCES

Image result for home alone

I really liked the use of sound in this film. It was very effective as they used very jazzy like music to represent an innocent boy's life alone in new york city. Although it doesn't go as planned and the movie slowly changes its mood from happy to mysterious. The sound they started using became more fast and and a little bit spooky once we are introduced to the robbers. This made the film seem interesting throughout.

Image result for home alone kids
The storytelling was really enjoyable and very effective. We get introduced to the family by seeing them on the screen physically instead of reading their names on the title sequences. I think this is creative and different therefore makes it stand out.

Image result for avatar
The colour in the film AVATAR wore used really brightly. The film expresses many different colours/neon lights which makes the viewer more amazed and eye forced into the film. I really like how the designer made the light blue skin colour on the characters making them stand out , as well as using unrealistic characters but making them look real in the movie makes it so much more interesting and enjoyable to watch.

blogging health check 1 feedback

I am slightly behind in some aspects of my blogging but i am happy with the level of work my blogging is at, I just need to increase the work done. From now on I will use different media in my presentation.

Blogging health check 1

I got a D grade :(
In order to improve my work I need to make it more appealing to the human eye and make sure my work is up to date! I promise I will make my blog more colourful and nicer.

Blogging Health Check 1

This is the feedback from my first blogging health check. I got 13/21 which is equivalent to a C. This is a decent grade for me considering that I was just beginning to get used to blogging and have honestly not done as much research as I should have.

This is the more detailed commentary that I received about my coursework so far. I understand this completely and now am sure on what to do to improve and get a higher mark. I will have to make sure to keep up with every task in my own time and even do some extension tasks for more marks. Also i will include more detail and widen my different options of presenting my blogs.

FEEDING BACK FROM MY FIRST BLOGGING HEALTH CHECK

I got 14/21 which i think is a decent mark considering that i was just beginning to get used to blogging and learning how it works.
i need to make sure that i write in more detail and insert more information into what i am going to be writing.
i also need to include more information and talk about one more film in my MACRO and MICRO analyses , as well as my sound posts need some more detail.

Macro Micro elements fast and furious

Micro and macro elements
Fast and furious 7

Macro elements- the key plot is introduced straight away. We are introduced to the main antagonist, which means we know the key characters. Revealing key/important characters straight away is a convention of a story opening. Furthermore, the plot is of shows how he’s brother has been attacked and killed by his enemies this creates an enigma of what is he going to do next. This outlines the plot of the film. The social group of fast and furious is aimed at generally people the age of 15-30 males. Due to the high age rating of the film (15) it wouldn’t be aimed at people of that age even though they can watch it. The character used is Jason Statham the purpose of using this is that fans of Jason Statham may be convinced to watch the film even though it may not be their favourite genre. This is called star marketing. Further into the opening scene he brings out a symbolic chain, which is shown in every movie of the franchise, this adds symbolism and creates an enigma because the chain represents ‘freedom’. Lastly, when he exits the hospital we can tell its action genre due to all the injured/ dead officers.

Micro elements-
Camera- the interesting thing about this film opening is that it is only one shot meaning no cuts and the whole thing run smoothly. Furthermore, the camera is a tracking shot most of the time showing who the main person is. By having this feature it makes the audience feel a part of the movie too.
Sound- The use of a crescendo builds up the tension and imply that something’s going to happen. The use of this is that it creates suspense/ tension, because when the antagonist rests the gun on his brother and gets up it imply’s that something dramatic is going to happen. So the use of sound in this title sequence creates tension within the audience.
Mise-en-scene- As the first camera shot is an establishing shot it is hard for the audience to tell exactly where the scene is set all they can tell is where in a sense of location as in City. The audience can automatically tell that it is a shot of London’s cityscape due to iconic buildings for instance the shard. The costume wore by the antagonist is a casual/ smart because he wears a shirt and tie. This represents London as London is stereotypically seen as the city which everyone wears a shirt and tie. As the scene continues more characters are revealed and we are aware that it is a hospital due to the clothing of the nurses and the actual setting. The thing which stands out most is that although its a hospital, its a hospital which is destroyed badly due to violence. By the layout being like this we are aware that it is an action genre.
