blogging health check 1 feedback
I am slightly behind in some aspects of my blogging but i am happy with the level of work my blogging is at, I just need to increase the work done. From now on I will use different media in my presentation.
Blogging health check 1
I got a D grade :(
In order to improve my work I need to make it more appealing to the human eye and make sure my work is up to date! I promise I will make my blog more colourful and nicer.
Blogging Health Check 1
This is the feedback from my first blogging health check. I got 13/21 which is equivalent to a C. This is a decent grade for me considering that I was just beginning to get used to blogging and have honestly not done as much research as I should have.
This is the more detailed commentary that I received about my coursework so far. I understand this completely and now am sure on what to do to improve and get a higher mark. I will have to make sure to keep up with every task in my own time and even do some extension tasks for more marks. Also i will include more detail and widen my different options of presenting my blogs.
FEEDING BACK FROM MY FIRST BLOGGING HEALTH CHECK
I got 14/21 which i think is a decent mark considering that i was just beginning to get used to blogging and learning how it works.i need to make sure that i write in more detail and insert more information into what i am going to be writing.

Macro Micro elements fast and furious
Micro
and macro elements
Fast and furious 7
Macro
elements- the key plot is introduced straight away. We are introduced to the
main antagonist, which means we know the key characters. Revealing
key/important characters straight away is a convention of a story opening.
Furthermore, the plot is of shows how he’s brother has been attacked and killed
by his enemies this creates an enigma of what is he going to do next. This
outlines the plot of the film. The social group of fast and furious is aimed at
generally people the age of 15-30 males. Due to the high age rating of the film
(15) it wouldn’t be aimed at people of that age even though they can watch it.
The character used is Jason Statham the purpose of using this is that fans of
Jason Statham may be convinced to watch the film even though it may not be
their favourite genre. This is called star marketing. Further into the opening
scene he brings out a symbolic chain, which is shown in every movie of the
franchise, this adds symbolism and creates an enigma because the chain
represents ‘freedom’. Lastly, when he exits the hospital we can tell its action
genre due to all the injured/ dead officers.
Micro
elements-
Camera- the
interesting thing about this film opening is that it is only one shot meaning
no cuts and the whole thing run smoothly. Furthermore, the camera is a tracking
shot most of the time showing who the main person is. By having this feature it
makes the audience feel a part of the movie too.
Sound-
The use of a crescendo builds up the tension and imply that something’s going
to happen. The use of this is that it creates suspense/ tension, because when
the antagonist rests the gun on his brother and gets up it imply’s that
something dramatic is going to happen. So the use of sound in this title
sequence creates tension within the audience.
Mise-en-scene-
As the first camera shot is an establishing shot it is hard for the audience to
tell exactly where the scene is set all they can tell is where in a sense of
location as in City. The audience can automatically tell that it is a shot of London’s
cityscape due to iconic buildings for instance the shard. The costume wore by
the antagonist is a casual/ smart because he wears a shirt and tie. This
represents London as London is stereotypically seen as the city which everyone
wears a shirt and tie. As the scene continues more characters are revealed and
we are aware that it is a hospital due to the clothing of the nurses and the
actual setting. The thing which stands out most is that although its a
hospital, its a hospital which is destroyed badly due to violence. By the
layout being like this we are aware that it is an action genre.

What are the 4 types of film openings?
My favorite title sequence was the title sequence of Fast and Furious 7. It used moving images and it threw you straight into the action due to all the violence and fighting. Also whilst you are still seeing the actors names it is overshadowed by the violence taking place in the frame.

Importance of Sound in film
Sound- Vibrations that travel through the air or another medium and can be heard when they reach a persons or animals ear.
Soundscape- A piece of music considered in terms of its component sounds.
Sound design- Process of specifying, manipulating or generating audio elements and getting sounds together(including sound within a piece).
Suspending disbelief- Willingness to watch even though its fake meaning watching for just for pure entertainment e.g Star Wars.
We watched 1 film opening. One with sound and the other without.
Screening 1- without sound
It was very boring however it allows the audience to create their own story in their head making it more interesting. On the other hand it did tend to make me the audience lose interest in the film.
Screening 2- With sound
This made everything more clear as the audience can tell the genre just by listening to the audio. Furthermore, it grabs your attention more because when you play it without sound you are more inclined to lose attention.
What difference does sound make?
Sound makes a big difference in a film, it can tell you the genre, the mood etc. I feel a movie without sound is a movie not worth watching.
As sound editor Marvin Kemer says in The Art of the Sound Effects Editor," the function of sound effects is three-fold"':
To simulate reality
To add or create something off scene that is not really there
To help the director create a mood

RESEARCH Analysing 2 Film title sequences
HEATHERS
-Starts with 1 ident
-Credits begin with plain black background and sweet/girly/innocent song in the background
-Lots of red hints towards the violence later in the film
-Seems innocent as a shot of blonde girl tying up her hair begins/title appears in shot, in cursive (elegant)
-Wealthy/3 Heathers playing cricket
-Their true spirits come through as music stops and main Heather aims ball for the lead characters head.
-This opening sequence makes it seem very much like an exaggerated teen drama. It makes us relate to the feelings of certain characters.

AMERICAN BEAUTY
-Starts with 1 ident
-Video footage of the daughter talking to her boyfriend about killing her father because he's a "lame-o".
-Cuts to title
-Ambient-ish music starts as a voice-over narrative begins.
-Monologue is by the main character who tells us he is about to die.
-Footage of his normal, monotone morning continues.
-He introduces us to his typical, American, suburban family.
-This title sequence creates this odd feeling of routine being bad. He makes us feel a little dead inside, just like him.
The importance of sound in film
Sound: It is what you hear
soundscape: A piece of music considered in terms of its component sounds.
sound design: process of manipulating or generating elements.
suspending disbelief: Watching it but not believing in it
While watching a title sequence with no sound , the only thing i could observe was that it was boring , showed no action , didn't get me hyped for the movie itself as well as i seemed to be out of focus as i didn't enjoy watching it.
However watching the same title sequence with sound made it more interesting and entertaining to watch. It also made me more interested in the movie and whats about to come.

PLANNING Gone Girl Remake storyboard
This is a very rough version of our storyboard as we did not manage to finish it properly. It's holds the very basic plot of the opening scene of Gone Girl.
RESEARCH Title Sequence of Favourite film
PALO ALTO (Unfortunately the only clip of the film that I could find that included the full opening credits in English was the full film. Play until 2min 25sec.)
-This title sequence starts with 3 idents.
-There is no music at first, you can hear the car radio as it zooms into the view of two teenagers drinking and smoking (illegal) and they have a short conversation that exaggerates their impulsive behaviour and builds tension.
-Character 2 (the guy behind the wheel) crashes the car purposely and it jumps to the title as thoughtful but childish music begins to play.
-This makes it feel very reckless.
-It then moves on to introducing other important characters.
-This Title is superimposed on a blank screen
Order Of Credits
-3 Idents
-Production companies
-Title
*strangely, the names of actors or crew members aren't in the opening. They are only mentioned in the closing credits.

RESEARCH Favourite previous student work
3. Lara, Denya, Marina, Hiba from 283goswellg on Vimeo.
This is my favourite previous student work. This genre is clearly horror and that is easy to understand because of the style of the opening credits. Title credits are used and so are many different shot types, for example, extreme close-ups and wide shots. In my opinion, it is edited very well and in a type of way that remains mysterious without being confusing. Most of the set is located in the forest with an odd shot of a lab and a studio. The lighting is mainly natural as it is outside. The soundtrack is just simple tense music, fitting in very well with the theme. The only dialog is the news presenter. It definitely looks like the opening of a film and got 54/60 marks.
